Hempfling - Meets Difficult Stallion - New Schooling Version

The first encounter already creates the constructive relationship. http://www.hempfling.com.
https://www.facebook.com/KlausFerdinandHempflingOfficialPage
Learn more about the KFH way of lungeing. With his professional background in communications he has shaken up the international horse world. He is working with these powerful, dignified creatures in accordance with nature. The development of the rider's "presence" and an orientation to holistic principles is integral to this work.
Klaus has the ability to "know" a horse within a few seconds and within a few minutes of the first meeting, he establishes a relationship so firmly that anything after that is completely based on trust -- creating lifelong friendship with the horses. Klaus Ferdinand Hempfling (latest book The Horse Seeks Me) is touching equestrians worldwide, with response in fields like natural horsemanship, horse whispering, classical and freestyle dressage, equestrian sports, western riding, endurance, eventing and horseback riding in general. He is at the forefront on working and interacting with horses and is known for authentic and effective groundwork according to the horses' nature, often proved and documented with stallions (breeding stallions). He considers the horse's psyche (horse psychology) and communicates via body language with these beautiful creatures. His first book, 'Dancing with Horses' met with overwhelming success. The main focus of his teaching is the humans' personal development and he is the founder of horse assisted manager and leadership training, having trained and coached many managers and leaders from companies all over the world. Klaus lived with wild horses in wilderness to observe their animal language and natural horse behaviour. In the beauty of this nature he developed his principals of the 'first encounter' of human and horse.

One of his specialities is the work with difficult and aggressive horses. Hempfling transforms dangerous, nervous, traumatized horses into cooperative companions. They recognize him as their leader, and become willing partners in groundwork and under saddle. The KFH riding system 'Balanced Weight Riding' starts with thorough groundwork and lungeing at liberty, building up the potential for the exercises of the High School Dressage (Haute Ecole), like shoulder-in, Spanish walk, passage.
One may say that he is meanwhile one of the leading names in the issue animal and especially horse welfare and horse passion and love, as well as horses in wildlife, roots in nature and animal communication. The German TV programme called him one of the most important horse whisperer of the world. Hempfling's professional background is in the fields communication, art, theatre, music, study of native people and cultures. He lives on a small island in the Danish Archipelago where he conducts exclusive courses for people from all corners of the world.

Paint It Black Dancing at Liberty December 2012

Here's another fun video of Paint It Black (PB) and I playing at liberty. We're working on circles, keeping the flow and keeping the energy light and fun.

Leading lessons with miniature horses

Today's lesson. This is my second visit. Last visit all of these horses were not leading well. I only worked with this particular horse a few minutes last session. I am demonstrating proper leading. The goal is, I don't feel him, and he does not feel me. Our goal is lightness.
Even though these horses are small, they are still horses, they believe they are 17 hand's tall. In their hearts and minds they are as big as any Budweiser Clydesdale. You do your horse, foal, or mini no favors by allowing them to get pushy, step into you, or drag you, it's also not fair for you to be constantly pulling on them. Leading a horse, is similar to Heeling a well behaved dog on a leash. The horse should walk when you walk, stop when you stop. and if you turn to the right, he should move his feet and body out of your way.

Dearest

Watch in HD!

I was asked to make a video of Huli, as the latest video of him is from the summer. So I thought isn't it time already? Clips are all from 2012, from February to August. The reason why I don't have more recent clips than the autumn ones, is the weather - the riding area has been frozen for a month or so and we could only walk on it - until now when we finally got snow which makes it a slightly softer platform. Still waiting for more snow though (we will get it, it's only a matter of time until we have human-tall snow piles everywhere.) And I promise to take tons of clips when we get the snow :)
Oh and about the video, I know it's not very good one editing-wise and the song is kind of dramatic but I love the song and I think the clips are pretty nice ^_^

Giving a Horse Vitamin C - Horse Jerking Reins Discussed - Rick Gore Hor...

http://www.thinklikeahorse.org/

I talk about giving your horse Vitamin C, 1500 mg twice a day, when they are sick or fighting off an infection. I also talk about someone asking for help since they think their horse is jerking the reins out of their hands. A horse cannot jerk a loose rope out of a hand that is not holding it too tight and does not understand release.

As always, consult your vet when it comes to the health and care of your horse, I am sharing what I do and what works for me and in my experience what is good. Lots of different beliefs out there so research, learn and study so you can do what is best for your horse.

Buddy and Mr. T you are good boys. :)

Armenia, land of the Horse

http://peopleofar.wordpress.com

Horse breading, the domestication of the horses and the development of the chariot in Armenia dates back to the time immemorial. In fact, the Armenian Highlands were renowned for horse breeding and horsemanship throughout ancient times. Murals of the Iran Age (Armenian) kingdom of Ararat attest to the richness of this practice.

Traditionally Armenians consider themselves as descended from the biblical Torgom (Togarmah), where the Bible refers to the House of Togarmah, a land known for its horses (Ez. 27:14).

Equally revered was the Armenian cavalry of the ancient times.

V. Chapot wrote: "What they say about Armenia bewilders us. How could this mountain people develop such a cavalry that was able to measure itself against the horsemen of the Medes? One thing which is certain is the fact that Armenia ...was a source of excellent well bred horses. The people in this country had discovered that horses were not just an economic asset, but could also be used for military purposes."

Catching Hard to Catch Hurt Horse - Driveline - Pressure & Release - Ric...

http://www.thinklikeahorse.org/

Here I have a volunteer try to catch a hard to catch horse that is hurt and in pain and does not want to be caught. I discuss pressure & release, using the driveline, stopping a horse's feet, controlling a horse's direction, making the wrong thing difficult and the right thing easy.

At the beginning of this Hollie said I already know I can't catch him he won't let me within 10 feet of him in the pasture.

Remember: If you think you can or think you can't - You are probably right.

This horse is a Mustang that is not people friendly and tends to avoid people. So normally he does not like to be caught, but he test everyone that tries and makes sure the person knows what they are doing and after he is convinced of that, he allows you to catch him. But now that he is hurt, has a bad abscess and is being doctored and caused pain every day, he does not like to be caught even more. And this behavior is very normal and predictable. Every time I catch him I doctor him and it causes discomfort, so he is NOT being mean or disrespectful, he is being a horse and that is all he knows how to be.

I cover his injury in this 3 part series:

Feel and Release: Root of the Neck Explained

"Feel" can seem elusive at times. In Bill Dorrance's definition of Feel, Timing and Balance (True Horsemanship Through Feel, Meanings Section) he points out that we need to understand these separately and then together. I started to learn about biomechanics and the root of the neck from Dr Deb Bennetts series "Principles of Conformation Analysis". It was only later that I learned from Leslie Desmond (co-author of Bill's book) how to make use of these facts about the horse to get with a horse through FEEL - in short, the art of releasing a horse in the root of the neck to access both mind and body without brace, and without creating pressure to release first. The better our understanding of this aspect of biomechanics the better our ability to read a horse and adjust to fit. Core stuff, wonderful stuff!

Miniature donkey foal fitted with prosthetic leg

Auburn University's College of Veterinary Medicine and the Hanger Clinic, formerly Hanger Prosthetics and Orthotics, are working together on a case that could have implications in the treatment and rehabilitation of horses, donkeys and other equids with congenital deformities or injuries.

Emma, a miniature donkey foal, was just two days old when she arrived at the John Thomas Vaughan Large Animal Teaching Hospital in April with a severe hind limb deformity, one that required amputation of the limb and the placement of a prosthesis.

A miniature donkey foal has been given a new lease of life since receiving one of the first prosthetic legs made for equines.

Hind limb deformity

Emma was born with a severe hind limb deformity that needed to be amputated when she was just two days old. Vets at Auburn University in Alabama then made her an artificial leg, working with clinician Billy Fletcher from prosthetics company Hanger Clinic.
This is the same company that made a prosthetic tail for an amputee dolphin called Winter, who was the star of last year’s hit film Dolphin Tale. They make animal limbs using the same materials that used for prostheses for Paralympic athletes.

Impressive design

“Billy was excited and enthusiastic to assist," said Dr Fred Caldwell, an assistant professor in the department of clinical sciences and equine surgeon. “Once we proceeded with the surgery and amputated the distal limb, he provided a small footplate to incorporate into the cast to even out the length of her hind limbs so she could bear weight until we could get the surgical site healed and have her fitted with a prosthesis. “
Emma is now 11 weeks old and thriving thanks to her new leg, which has since been replaced with a new model to make her even more mobile.
"She absolutely loved it from the get-go," Caldwell said. "It was a very impressive design and she did very well in it. She is getting stronger; she's growing and doing wonderfully."
As Emma grows, she will have her prosthec leg changed a number of times. When she reaches full growth she will then be fitted with a more permanent leg.

Unique teaching opportunity

The practice of using prostheses with horses and ponies is uncommon due to size and weight-bearing limitations. As Emma is a miniature donkey she will only weigh around 350 pounds as an adult, so she has provided a unique teaching opportunity for those involved.
“It's been very educational for me as an equine surgeon to learn; this has certainly been my first case,” said Caldwell. “I think we have a long way to go before we get to this being a procedure that's routinely an option for our larger patients, but for a prosthetic limb to be an option in horses is something that's pretty exciting."

This has been the most incredible journey. These past couple months I have learned so much and changed in so many ways. I found this way of horsemanship that has turned everything around for me and Casino. There's no more pressure, no more forcing or pain. Were free. We look at one another as equals and enjoy every moment of our time together. Liberty and clicker training has been the best thing that could ever have happened to us. Our bond is so much stronger and where we are now is all I've ever dreamed of. The feeling of that special connection we share words can not describe how amazing it is. We've gone from being so afraid and lost to being able to live our dreams everyday. We still have a few struggles and things to work through, but with every new day we are always improving. Casino has been learning so quickly and been so responsive I am so proud of him. He knows kiss, smile, bow, pawing which were still in progress of learning, targeting and building up to rearing. In the near future we will be working on lying down, Spanish walk and a few other tricks as well as him cantering at my side. I haven't used a halter or bridle on him in a very long time other then leading him to the arena. I haven't ridden him in quite awhile, but that doesn't even matter. What we've been doing everyday has built up so much between us and even though it's work on the ground it will help so much when it comes to riding. The last several times I did ride him it was all bareback and for the most part completely tackless or with a rope around his neck. I've never been so happy in all the years I have been riding and had horses. This change from traditional horsemanship to liberty has opened my eyes up to a lot of things. I hope that I can fulfill my dreams with horses and maybe someday have a career with them.

I want to give a HUGE thank you to LittlePistolAnnie she has helped me so much through everything and is a big part in where I am now with Casino and all that I have learned. I encourage you all to check out her channel and watch her videos. She and Annie are breath taking. They are one of my biggest inspirations! It's absolutely beautiful the things the two of them can do together. There bond is something very special.

My favourite video of hers; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCacYaK3kNg

I'm not perfect, but i'll keep trying.

A bit of a different side to myself and May, I do this quite a lot with her at home, but this was my first time tackless!! i just never have anyone to film so I put the camera on the fence today and got abit for you!! She is a real quick learner and I hope to teach her a few more tricks in the future, when she was 2 she was really bolshy so I did a lot of natural horsemanship with her and she is so joined up with me now its really nice! I believe to be successful with a horse you have to have a unique relationship and you should be able to teach a horse anything you want to.

This also shows May does not hate me because I am a horrible owner/rider, we have an awesome relationship and I hope you can see it here :)

Teaching Horses to Accept Gun Fire -Shooting Guns (Lecture) -Sacking Out...

http://www.thinklikeahorse.org/
How do you teach a horse to accept gunfire? The slow way is the fast way. Like most things with horses, it is a process and NOT an event. All training is connected to many variables, like your experience, your confidence, your timing, feel, release, understanding of horses, time spent with horses and how YOU react and you respond to what happens. Then there are the horse factors such has prior training, prior learning, prior experiences, what lessons have been taught to the horse like does the horse respect or fear people, does the horse know how to give to pressure, does the horse know how to look for a right answer, does the think or react with fear, all kind of things in play, so when someone asks, how do I teach a horse to do ? whatever, there is no way to give a good answer and the fact that a person is asking and expecting an answer tells me they don't understand all the variables when it comes to horses.

Sacking out or teaching a horse to accept new or scary things are about the same process. It can be easy and smooth or it can be a disaster where the horse learns dangerous lessons or gets hurt. It is up to YOU. When a horse fails it is YOU. When they learn and succeed then you did it right. A horse tells you when you did it right or wrong. Listen to the horse. Horse training is about the Horse teaching you what you do not know.

Not having knowledge about something is not as dangerous as knowing the wrong information and believing what you know is right. If people stop thinking they know so much and just started listening to the horse, they would learn more.

Small steps, make the right answer easy, prevent the wrong answer, do not teach the end results, teach small steps to build the horse's confidence so he can accept the final result.

My videos and web site are tied together to help you learn about the horse, if you just look for a simple answer from one video or one article on my site, you are missing the big picture. The more you question what you know, the more you will be willing to learn better ways for the Horse.

Buddy and Mr. T you are good boys.

Why I was asked about this:
This person rides in isolated areas & has ran into mountain lions & or bears so to protect or scare off a gun is handy. In some areas you may cross on someone's land & they get upset & people tend to treat people better if they have guns to defend themselves, some time if you ride long ways you may run into a illegal crop of Marijuana grow or drug lab, so they will shoot at you and try to kill you so you don't tell cops where they are located. Someone may try steal your horse or rob you. Having a gun and not needing it is better than needing a gun and not having it

Hempfling - HORSES' WINGS

First encounter with PRE stallion - a new impression of power and gentleness, loyalty and conversion. Very clearly you can see the fantastic effects of the Magic-Lungeing, which Klaus founded in this form and evolved into a true art and unique way. With many thanks to Vox Nova for the music 'O frondens virga instrumental' from the album 'Sapientia'.
Here one of the most important bases in Klaus's work. A horse needs a very good preparation to carry a rider. Klaus has raised the Art of Lungeing - learn more about it here and what this means. This clip is also a first entrance into Klaus' unique way of being with horses in the highest sense of their culture which has made him known worldwide. ‪‪‪‪http://www.hempfling.com‬‬‬‬ This video features the horse therapist Klaus Ferdinand Hempfling's work.

I had to cut out a bit of the video, because my dog Finn pulled my mom and the camera filmed the ground for a bit XD.
